Still Breathing

Yep, still breathing, still here, and this blog isn’t dead. I am just really, really busy with routine garrison crap. Can’t get caught up no matter what I do.

I would have posted some photos of the cool Alaskan Vistas I get to see from the air, but all my flights have been at night so far and I don’t have an NV capable camera. I am supposed to fly next week during the daylight, so maybe then.

Speaking of Alaska, we are finally up to about 8 hours of daylight and the temps have been just awesome lately. Its been hovering in the mid 20F to low 30s here during the day. Unseasonably warm! I was actually out wandering around town today without a coat enjoying the weather.

So that’s about it. Keep checking back occasionally and maybe you’ll get to see some of the photos I plan on putting up.

MobileMe Worth it?

So, its been a bit since I posted anything, and a long time since I posted any kind of review or tech review, but I am gonna tell you about my experiences with Apple’s MobileMe service.

Per Apple, “MobileMe is a service that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync. No docking required. And that’s just one of many ways MobileMe simplifies your life.”

Milblog Blackout, Twitter Digest, Pictures, and other things

Ok, well I finally posted up some pics from the last year. Not as many as I posted from my last tour, but how many different pictures of helicopters can I post anyway? I also haven’t posted any Twitter digests in a while, and I discovered I can only easily get the last month’s worth of tweets. Besides that, we are just getting ready for all the holidays and birthdays we have coming up. I still got a couple of weeks leave to go, and I plan on getting the most out of it.

Also, I would like to join the other milbloggers out there in supporting the milblog cause. I was silent on the Milblog Blackout, but not for any other reason than I was enjoying my time off, so now I will put in my two cents. Our personal freedom of speech as well as your ability to read the stories from those with “boots on the ground” is coming under attack. While I fully support the need for OPSEC, I also feel its penultimately important the we be able to tell our stories, our way, with out fear of reprisal in order to get an accurate picture of this period in history for the future as well as the present.

Sitting At Home

I finally made it home! I have been a home a little over a week and its amazing how fast “real life” comes crashing back in. I spent the first few days just getting in-processed back into the states. Since I ended up an an individual re-deployer, I managed to skirt out of most of those long boring speeches and classes, but I did have to run all over the post trying to find individuals and departments to clear my paperwork and become “officially back.”

A Gilded Cage

So I have been dealing with re-deployment issues for the last two weeks. What a headache. The right hand never talks to the left, let alone the feet. One minute everything is on track, scheduled and everybody is aware. Thirty seconds later, you call back and no one knows anything and its suddenly a rat race to put out the fire. Then comes DCS, the civilians, the contractors, and Navy Customs. I can keep going, but it is giving me a migraine just to think about it.

A Year of Combat MEDEVAC

So I finished up my last scheduled duty cycle this morning. No more flying MEDEVAC in Iraq for this tour. We are almost done for this round. The new replacement unit is on the ground, they are almost ready to stand up and take over the mission, and I am off to another country in a few days to watch over all our stuff until its headed home.
