So, I have been healing up for the past week or so. I have been working at our BAS, and off the patrol schedule. Its been a good time, and I have been really productive. I live for patient care and I have treated more people in the past 8 days then I have in the past two months in the field. I guess thats a good thing. The lack of serious trauma patients from enemy contact is yet more proof that the surge is working. I actually heard on the news yesterday that there were no casualties last month for the first time, but I haven’t seen the report myself. I wish I could just ride out the last bit of our deployment working in the BAS, but alas my platoon needs me still. They are still being slammed with patrols and the other night they brought in several IA that had been wounded in a rollover.
That was an interesting night as everyone rushed the BAS all at once with all their ills around 2200. What started as a couple of soldiers with food poisoning turned into 10 coalition troops with miscellaneous injuries and illnesses - a MASCAL. I think I managed the MASCAL pretty well and we had kicked out the first batch just before the second batch arrived. I guess you’d have to ask the three enlisted medics that worked with me for their opinions though. I tend to get a little hyper during MASCALs, not because I lose track or anything, but because I feed off the energy and I move around a lot making sure all the patients are being treated and moved appropriately. I tend to annoy people with the whole moving fast, barking orders thing, but thats just how it goes. It comes from being a paramedic for so long, knowing what needs to get done, and managing MCIs regularly I think. Anyway, things were wrapped up around 0100 after reducing an ankle dislocation with the PA over at the TMC (We took two patients to the TMC for X-rays and such).
In the end, I have enjoyed the time up here and have gotten a charge from the level of productivity I have had. I am glad I made the decision to come back here and work “light duty” instead of sitting in a patient warehouse in Kuwait. Its back to patrols day after tommorrow though. I guess I’ll just go back to working up here part-time at nights to stay fresh.

Good to know that you are healing and back on your feet. Just don’t overdo it. Also glad that things are quiet…We do think that’s a good thing. Understand you all don’t think the same way. Was it a full moon the night things turned interesting? Funny stuff happens on full Moon nights…
No matter where you go, you all stay safe!
