Guardian Angels For Soldier’s Pets

Perspective

Guardian Angels For Soldier’s Pets is a wonderful organization that helps find foster families for soldier’s pets.  A lot of times family pets end up in pounds when soldier’s deploy because they can’t find anyone to take care of them, or don’t have the funds to send them to a family member.  I have even heard of pets being set free to roam or locked in their now empty houses.  I wanted to bring this organization to attention here, because until a few days ago I had never heard of them.

As most of you are aware, we have been having issues finding a new home (or transportation) for our dog.  I received a comment the other day that put me onto this organization.  I submitted our dog that day and heard from a representative early the next morning.  She was very nice, helpful, and understood my situation.  She told me about the organization, and its a nationwide support organization of volunteers, foster homes, and placement counselors.  They are non-profit, well supported, and I believe associated with Soldier’s Angels in some way.  The people are committed to helping soldiers out, and my contact was willing to go out of her way to help us.  She even left the case open and continued to try to find a foster home until we contacted her back.  They never give up trying.  Unfortunately, there were no foster homes close enough to us for the short amount of time we had left.

I wanted to mention this group mainly because I had never heard of them and I know their services are desperately needed given the current tempo of deployments for service members.  This needs to be one of those organizations that gets listed with every ACS, FRG, and post support group listing there is on every post.  They don’t have a lot of money to advertise for themselves so every free bit helps.  Believe me I will remember them and the compassion and hard work they showed our family in their attempts to help us.  I will tell every soldier I know about them and try to get their organization listed with ACS and the FRGs so no other military families have to deal with the heart-breaking ordeal we have been through.  Its wonderful supportive organizations like this that deserve your support, money, and time.  Please if you want to support the troops, this organization is well worth the donation.  Without them life would be so much harder for military families.  Afterall, our pets are as much a part of our family as any one else’s.

Doc,

I’m sorry that they weren’t able to help you and Mrs.Doc. I’d offer to take your dog, but Ky is a tad bit far…
