GeekTool for Mac

I was reading Lifehacker the other day. I love to peruse the Workspace and Desktop articles for interesting ideas and themes. Some of the workplaces and desktops people put together are amazing, and some of the ideas might be useful in the super small space I am about to inherit during deployment.

TRON 2 Disparity?

Ok, so I gotta ask where did the Tron world reside this time? In the original 1982 movie, it obviously took place on ENCOM’s computers and server farm. The laser was in an ENCOM lab, Flynn had to sneak in, etc. The world itself was full of cheesy graphics and objects could only move at angles, generally.

Tech Notes

So a quick update on some Tech stuff from the week. I have been getting iPad apps in the hopes I can get some real use out of them when we deploy. However, the other day I was at AT&T and got to look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Reading Electronic Books

So, if you don’t know, I own an iPad. Yes, I have one of the coolest new geek toys on the block. Not only do I have the iPad, I went all out and bought the best one they had. I use my iPad for just about everything these days, rarely touching my Macbook.

IPad Blogging

So I thought I would try out the WordPress for iOS (iPhone and iPad). I have to say it’s pretty nice for a simple posting app. Seems to handle pretty much anything I would need to do from a mobile device – posting, photos, previews, etc. It was updated tonight for the new iPhone 4′s retina display. That doesn’t do me much good yet since I have an iPad and my new iPhone won’t be here for a week or so.

So anyway, if you need a good app for quick blog updates, this would be a pretty good choice. Even if you don’t have WordPress, as long as your CMS understands the XML-RPC protocol you should be able to use most of the features.

Jumping Ship

A long time ago, I entered a contest to get a free version of a new CMS called Expression Engine. I won and promptly switched from MoveableType.  For those that have been around that long, this was during the controversy over SixApart starting to charge those who donated to MT for the new MT. Anyway, long story short I jumped in head first and built everything here around EE.

MobileMe Worth it?

So, its been a bit since I posted anything, and a long time since I posted any kind of review or tech review, but I am gonna tell you about my experiences with Apple’s MobileMe service.

Per Apple, “MobileMe is a service that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync. No docking required. And that’s just one of many ways MobileMe simplifies your life.”

1234567890 Cometh

If you hadn’t heard yet, tomorrow 13 Feb 09 at 3:31:30 PM (PST) the time will be 1234567890Unix time that is.  Its the one and only occurrence ever of that time and it will last exactly one second.  There are actually parties planned in San Francisco and Vancouver.  I just thought it was an interesting little piece of trivia being the Linux person I am and all.

@Kickbee

Ok, my wife is pregnant and due tomorrow with our second little girl.  Hopefully, she will be on time because of my deployment crunch.  I am really looking forward to her arrival too.

Anyway, I am excited she is coming, but not this excited.  Besides, if I made my wife wear that, she would have killed me already.
