7 Years of My Recorded Life

Would you believe this blog has passed the seven year mark?  That’s right, I started this place way back in 2002.  Its gone through many iterations from small blogger site to a fully integrated CMS on its own domain.  Its still moving forwards after all these years, chronicling the things in the authors life he feels are important.  Sometimes this place is barely alive at all, but here it sits in the backwaters of the internet, a small little milblog with a small readership doing what it does.

In reality, I know I am not the best writer out there, nor am I even the most interesting, but I started this thing as an experiment in journaling my life into a “real-time memoir” way back when blogging was still a new buzzword.  I think I have been pretty successful.  This is the longest I have ever kept a side project and hobby going continuously, and sometimes I feel its a necessary part of my life now.  It gives me the ability to release steam, be a center-stage in my own little corner, and record almost anything I feel needs recording.

I say almost, because there are a lot of things I wish I could relate to you that I think would make this place a little more exciting and controversial. Having been censored once by a previous employer, I learned the hard way that some things are best kept out of the public view.  Also, in reality this is a milblog now, and I do need to watch what I say for OPSEC and other reasons.  I need to censor myself a little bit to keep from being censored a whole lot.  There are also family concerns. I have listened and read other bloggers that have had stalkers, trolls, and other types actually track down their private info, make threats, and make their lives miserable over what they wrote. I will not bring that upon my family.  Still, I wish I could be as open as I want to be.  I once thought about taking the site private and requiring membership so I could be more open, but I decided against that.  After all a blog is supposed to be a place where you can say what you want and hopefully start an intelligent discourse on whatever subject sparks conversation.  Privatizing the site would defeat that purpose.

Thank you for taking the time to stroke my ego and visit my monument to narcissism.  I plan to keep this blog going for a long time, mostly for myself and my family, but you are welcome to enjoy what it has to offer as well.

My first ever blog post, mistakes and all, from 24 Feb 2002 because I felt like being nostalgic.  tongue laugh

Cool. I finally got up the nerve to Start a Blog! Depending on how this goes I may actually get a domain and move everything there. However, I think the wife my get a little ticked if I spent the cash right now.
BTW, I hate Ads, but its what I gotta take for a free spot, so bear with me.

Why Start a blog? Especially with so many blogs and so little readership?
1) VENTING!!! My job frustrates me from time to time
2) I have storeis about it to tell (some intresting, some not so)
3) Communicating with people, both those I know and Don’t
4) Just a grand experment in unleashing the workings of my mind on the world.

Why Should you give a damn about me or my blog?
No Particular reason, but let me tell you about myself.
I have been a Paramedic for 5 years. I have seen the best and worst in people and I love to tell both the humorous and serious stories related to the human condition found in my work. Currently I work Offshore in an Advanced capacity on Oil Rigs. Although not much ever happens out here, when it does its a real Whopper! When I am off I still work the streets and interact with the people of the world.

Before that I was in the Special Forces. Don’t know if that will ever come into play, but who knows.

I am newly married at almost 30. Which seems old for my generation. I was the last of my friends married and I took the longest. My wife is a Kindergarten teacher and is six years younger than I (She has some pretty funny stories herself which I might convince her to pass on)

So to Finalize this post, What will you hopefully get by coming here?
Stories from my job and life (Hopefully the wife’s too)
Cool Gadgets, toys, websites, whatever I feel like posting
My rants regarding my job, life, etc
An Inside and sometimes ugly view of my take on the world and society
Anything else I feel like posting about

So I hope you enjoy this blog and find it amusing, horrifying, ehatever it turns out to be.
Have Fun!

    Doc,
Congratulations on hitting the 7year mark.  Isn’t that supposed to be when the ‘itch’ starts?  smile

I have enjoyed reading about your life and that of your wife for the last several years.  Reading your thoughts about your deployment, coming home, moving to the land of the frozen tundra, being blessed with another child,
and your thoughts on your current deployment.

Hope everyone is doing well within your family there and at home.

    Take care and stay safe!

    oh, and keep writing!
